You get this podcast for nothin and the jokes for free! Checkered Past finishes off their trilogy of episodes on the poster children of third wave Ska, Reel Big Fish! To discuss the band's later years, Rob and co-host Engineer Joey welcome Gary of Backyard Superheroes and the On the Upbeat Podcast! First, Gary discusses his checkered past, his long history in the New Jersey Ska scene and his connection with the Ska pods! Then, the trio go through Reel Big Fish's indie era with their bizarre Monkeys for Nothin album, the triumphant return on Candy Coated Fury and the laid back positivity of Life Sucks. To cap it off, Rob and Joey play a game of Sell Out and answer a couple listener questions.

Backyard Superheroes

The Backyard Superheroes are a New Jersey ska-punk band that started in early 2012. They have been compared to Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and other popular bands in the genre. They are eight strong, featuring two guitars, a bass, a drummer, and a horn section including a trumpet, a tenor saxophone, bari saxaphone and a trombone. With various musical backgrounds, and several side-projects, the members are all committed to musicianship, to varying degrees.

The Backyard Superheroes can be seen quite frequently in the NJ and PA areas, particularly in the shore towns and several college scenes through out the states, though they've completed two national tours; the first down to Orlando, with stops along the eastern seaboard, and the second stretching into the northern Midwestern U.S., highlights including Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland.
