14. The Techniques (w/ Backyard Superheroes)

Rudies, Punks and Nerds unite! Checkered Past welcomes Bex of New Jersey-based Ska Punkers, Backyard Superheroes to truly go way back and cover Rocksteady icons, The Techniques! Bex talks about all things Garden State, the value of authenticity in their music and all the ways the modern Ska scene is a bastion of inclusivity. Afterwards, they get in deep with Techniques; a jaw dropping tale of voodoo spliffs, Rasputin-style invincibility and general Orange Street hooliganism.

Backyard Superheroes

he Backyard Superheroes are a New Jersey ska-punk band that started in early 2012. They have been compared to Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and other popular bands in the genre. They are eight strong, featuring two guitars, a bass, a drummer, and a horn section including a trumpet, a tenor saxophone, bari saxaphone and a trombone. With various musical backgrounds, and several side-projects, the members are all committed to musicianship, to varying degrees.

The Backyard Superheroes can be seen quite frequently in the NJ and PA areas, particularly in the shore towns and several college scenes through out the states, though they've completed two national tours; the first down to Orlando, with stops along the eastern seaboard, and the second stretching into the northern Midwestern U.S., highlights including Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland.
