13. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - Part 1 (w/ Ska Punk International)

Is this another episode of Checkered Past: The Ska'd Cast? I think it is! Chris Reeves of Ska Punk International joins Celine and Rob to begin a long term series on the deep history of the incredible Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. They discuss bringing international Ska into North America, DIY tactics and the modern state of the culture. PLUS: a scintillating and not at all complicated game of The Shipping Blues. This super-sized episode cannot be missed!

Ska Punk International

Hi! I’m Chris.

I’m the face behind Ska Punk International.

I’ve been listening to ska and punk since I was 14 years old. I’m just as passionate about the music and what it stands for now as I was back then.

I'm so stoked to be able to make SPI Records a reality and help bring kick-ass bands from around the world here to the United States.

SPI Records is a DIY label through and through. I run everything out of my garage by myself so be nice! I'm doing my best to keep up!

SPI Records is founded on 3 principles: community, accessibility and giving back.

Community - None of this would be possible without all the incredible people I've met around the world that have supported and continue to support SPI, especially those on the SPI Podcast Patreon. Super special shout-out to my wife, Carly, for putting up with all these insane ideas.

SPI also believes in standing up for what's right and not being quiet about it. All bands that are part of the SPI family believe this as well.

Accessibility - Ordering music from bands in other countries is a huge pain and I'm trying to change that. All releases will be available on as many formats as possible, even if they didn't originally release on those formats.

Giving Back - My mom raised me to always give back and do your part to make the world better. Many releases on SPI will be designated charity releases.
